The Environment & Sustainability
FileBase aims to become the most environmentally conscious Information Management Company in the North East and is embarking on several exciting projects including carbon offsetting via renewable energy schemes and tree planting as well as LPG technology in their vehicles. As part of our ISO14001 we have specific standards in place to ensure that the impact of our business activities on the environment is managed and reduced over time.
Sustainability
Sustainability is another key tenet of our ISO14001 and where possible, we use suppliers from the North East and employ from the local community. The net result is that FileBase’s success has had a positive impact on the local community and economy.
These principles mean that FileBase enjoys the support of those involved and concerned with the development and sustainability of the region. Something that helped FileBase win business in the community in 2008.
We work hard to ensure our suppliers and partners have sustainability practices in place and where possible will invest and source products and services from the North East.
-
Step 1: Record Creation
Hard copy records created every day in offices throughout the North East. FileBase can collect this once it is due for shredding.
-
Step 2: Destruction
FileBase has an industrial shredding unit that handles hundreds of tonnes each month. Paper is cross-shredded into tiny strips which prevents it from ever being put together again.
-
Step 3: Bailing
Shredded paper is compressed and bailed ready for transportation to the mill. Shredding bails are taken to historic Fourstones paper mill in Northumberland.
-
Step 4: Pulping, pressing & Drying
Fourstones paper (est. 1763) has a rich tradition in paper production. Here the shredded paper is pulped, pressed and dried as part of a complex process.
-
Step 5: Recycled products
The finished products include wound dressing, paper towels, bandages and toilet rolls which are all supplied to the local NHS market.
